Robertson’s has ten aggregate processing plants located in Southern California: San Diego, Cabazon, Banning, San Bernardino, Redlands, Rialto, Palmdale, Barstow and two in Lucerne as well as a rail system, delivering aggregate to the L.A. market from our Cabazon quarry, to provide for the aggregate needs of the industry. These plants perform aggregate reduction and washing operations, employing state-of-the-art machinery. Typical products include ready mixed concrete aggregate, bedding materials for underground utilities and crushed base materials. The quality of products from our processing plants are carefully monitored to ensure compliance with all applicable specifications. Our goal is to produce products that will consistently meet or exceed customer specification.

What is Aggregate?
Aggregate is granular material, such as sand, gravel, crushed stone or broken concrete.
# 2 Rock
(1 1/2” minus) is a washed rock with a maximum aggregate size of 1” and can be either crushed or natural.
# 3 Rock
1” minus) is a washed rock with a maximum aggregate size of 1”and can be either crushed or natural.
# 4 Rock
(pea rock) is a washed rock with a maximum aggregate size of 3/8” and can be either crushed or natural .
# 5 Rock
(Birds Eye) can be either crushed or natural and is used under tilt up panels.
1 1/2" Crushed Rock
Much of that depends on what the concrete is being used for. In most cases, Fibermesh is an excellent no-hassle solution to providing additional strength. We also suggest using rebar or wire depending on the use.
1/2" Crushed Rock
Is unwashed and artificially crushed and is fractured on at least 1 side and is mainly used for back fill or in asphalt, with a maximum aggregate size of 1 1/2”.
3/4" Crushed Rock
Is unwashed and artificially crushed and is fractured on at least 1 side and is mainly used for back fill or in asphalt, with a maximum aggregate size of 3/4”.
3/8" Crushed Rock
Is unwashed, artificially crushed and graded and is fractured on at least 1 side and is mainly used for back fill or in asphalt, with a maximum aggregate size of 3/8”.
C Mix
Is a mixture of rock and sand used to make concrete.
Caltrans Class II Base
Can be made of broken concrete asphalt and concrete or natural aggregate and is usually crushed to a 3/4” minus. This can be used for Caltrans work as well as other projects.
Cement Treated Base (CTB)
(Do not carry) is a mixture of aggregates and measured amounts of Portland cement and water.
Crushed Aggregate Base (CAB)
Crushed Aggregate Base consists entirely of crushed rock and rock dust ONLY.
Fill Sand
Is dry screened products that is used for trench fill, back fill, slab underlayment and has many other uses.
If I want a 1/2" rock, is that what I get?
All aggregate products are a blend of rocks with a maximum size aggregate graded down to a minimum size. If you are looking for a true 1/2" rock for example, you may want to check places that specialize in decorative rock.
Class II Base - Recycled
Is made of broken concrete and asphalt and is usually crushed to a 3/4” minus and is excellent for driveways and parking lots and has many other uses.
Permeable Base
Is used for drainage and can be used under artificial turf.
Sand Fines or Gas Sand
Are the 100’s and 200’s remaining after the washed concrete sand is produced and is used for pipe bedding and other specific applications.
Select Sand
Is a screened product that is excellent for trench back fill and slab underlayment and has many other uses.
Washed Concrete Sand
Is a washed properly graded product that is used for concrete, and has many other uses.
Washed Plaster Sand
Is a washed properly graded product that is used for plaster, mortar, playgrounds, bedding and has many other uses.
Dry Plaster Sand
For "scratch coat and brown coat".
Unwashed Sand
Is dry screened products that is used for trench fill, back fill, slab underlayment and has many other uses.
Select Sand SE -30+
Fill sand that requires a "sand equivalent" of 30 or better.
Clay
Ask a sales associate for current information regarding this product.
What makes for a good drainage material?
There are many products that will provide a good drainage material. The material to be used is dependent on how much of a water flow is needed as well as the size of the opening if pipe is used. Crushed products are recommended.
